Charlie's Angels
Certificate: Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu, Bill Murray
Length: 98 minutes Director: Joseph McGinty Nichol
Rating: The hit 1970s TV series gets the big screen treatment, with big budget high action and a pumping pop soundtrack. Natalie (Diaz), Dylan (Barrymore) and Alex (Liu) are the new recruits to Charlie's private detective agency, and are aided by the bumbling Bosley (Murray).

The story is standard implausible action formula stuff, without much in the way of originality. The action sequences are all pretty impressive, and were put together by the people behind The Matrix's martial arts fighting sequences. Bill Murray makes an effort to inject some decent humour into the film, but unfortunately his appearances are fairly brief. The vast majority of the film is totally tongue in check and a complete piss take of itself.

The film performed very impressively in America, where it took more than $40m in its opening weekend. The main selling points are the action and the cast, which should manage to pack people into the multiplexes over here. If you remember to turn your brain off before going into the cinema, you might even enjoy the dumb jokes.
